Andy Gemmill
Andy originally trained in Respiratory Medicine but has worked for the last thirty years in pastoral ministry. After 13 years as senior pastor of Beeston Free Church in Nottingham he relocated to his native Glasgow to work as Director of the Pastors Training Course at Cornhill Scotland.
He is married to Annie, a GP, and they have 2 grown up children.
It has been thrilling to witness the birth of Hope for Addiction UK. Three features are unusual and exciting about this new venture. Firstly, it is unusual to find an addiction-related ministry with a thoroughly biblical understanding of addiction. Where the problem is not properly understood, the solutions will always be inadequate. Hope for Addiction UK is reassuringly different in this area.
Secondly, Hope for Addiction UK is unusual in viewing local churches as central to its work. Too often there is an unbridgeable gap between addiction agencies and the church communities where people might find long term friendship and support. Not so at Hope for Addiction UK!
Thirdly, Terry McCutcheon is unusually qualified to lead this work. He understands addiction from the inside, has huge experience of working in this field, thinks with great theological clarity, is an immensely capable preacher and teacher, and is deeply committed to seeing people made clean both chemically and spiritually. I can’t think of a person more suitable to spearhead this wonderful new work.
